Privacy Policy

Cliffy is an app for short drama series, made by Hookfall Studios. This policy says what Cliffy collects while it's being tested, why, who handles it for us, and for how long. It's an interim policy: a full one replaces it before Cliffy opens to more testers.

What we collect

Your account. When you tap Start watching, Cliffy makes a visitor account for your phone, known to us by a random account ID. If you sign in with Google, we keep your Google account's ID and email address, and nothing else from Google. Google's sign-in can include your name: our server reads past it and never stores it, and the name Cliffy shows on Me stays on your phone.
Your sessions. A sign-in lasts up to 90 days. We don't keep your IP address or browser details with it.
How episodes play. For each episode you play, the app sends us which episode it was, the quality it played at, how long it took to start and whether it paused to load, how many seconds you watched, where in the app it played and how it ended, how much data it used, the name of your mobile network (such as Airtel or Vi), whether your connection is metered, and the app's version. When an episode can't play, it also sends your phone's model and its video decoder. This is linked to your account ID, and holds no identifier of your phone.
App analytics. From your first tap of Start watching or Continue with Google, Google Analytics for Firebase records events in the app, such as an episode starting or finishing, a sign-in or a change of quality, with an ID Firebase gives this installation of the app. It also records, by itself, when the app is opened and used, your phone's model and Android version, and a rough location that Google works out from your IP address. It never gets your Android ID or advertising ID, and never a name, an email or anything you type.
Crash reports. When the app or our server meets an error, a report goes to Sentry: what went wrong and where, the app's version, and your phone's model and Android version. Reports are cleared of passwords, keys and personal details before they're sent, carry no account or phone identifier, and Sentry doesn't store your IP address.
Your IP address. Our servers, and the services below, see your IP address when the app connects. Our servers' request logs keep it for 30 days. We don't use it to find out who you are.
Emails you send us. If you write to us, we keep your email and our reply.

We don't collect your name, photo, age, contacts or precise location, your Android ID or advertising ID, or anything else on your phone. Cliffy's website sets no cookies of its own.

Why we use it

To run your account, keep you signed in, and play the episodes your account can watch.
To keep Cliffy working: how fast episodes start, where they stall, and what crashes, so we can fix it.
To see how Cliffy is used, so we can make it better.

We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.

How long we keep it

Your account: until it's deleted.
Sessions: 90 days.
How episodes play: 30 days.
Request logs, with IP addresses: 30 days.
Backups of our database: encrypted, and kept 60 days.
Our audit log, a record of account deletions, account merges and changes to the catalogue, under accounts' random IDs: kept.
A deleted account's ID: 90 days, so a restore from a backup can't bring the account back.
App analytics: each event for 2 months, and the installation's ID until 2 months after the app was last used.
Crash reports: 30 days.
Emails you send us: 180 days after your question is resolved.

Visitor accounts

A visitor account belongs to the phone it was made on. If you uninstall Cliffy or change phones, it can't come back; signing in with Google keeps your account. An unused visitor account is deleted after 90 days, unless we gave it access for testing, which we keep with that record.

Deleting your account

With a Google account, email support@cliffy.video from your Google account's address: we'll ask you to confirm, then delete it. Deleting from the app itself comes before Cliffy opens to more testers.

What stays: the audit log's record that the account was deleted, under its random ID, which names nobody. Our encrypted backups hold your data until they expire, 60 days at most, and our request logs for their 30 days.

Your rights

To see your data or have it deleted, write to support@cliffy.video with the account ID shown on Me in Cliffy.

Who can use Cliffy

Cliffy is for people 18 or older. By tapping Start watching or Continue with Google, you confirm you're 18 or older and agree to our Terms and this policy.

Changes to this policy

When what we collect changes, we update this page and the date at its top.
